Pioneer Previews: Bluegrass band to perform concert at county fairgrounds
The bluegrass band "Special Consensus" will perform at 2:00 p.m. today, July 17, Marilyn Shutter on the scene at the Fair County Beltrami County, U.S. Highway 71 N.
This is the first of many concerts, what could be done here during the summer months when attendance is good. Bluegrass music fans know that this group has played to standing ovations at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville and is recognized as one of the first groups in the country. This group of four men, an acoustic group, began performing in Chicago in 1975 and began national tours after the release of their debut album in 1979. Their CD “35” was released in celebration of their 35 years of performing and recording by Compass Records in 2010. The $15 tickets will be available at the door. The venue is intimate (up close and personal) and the seating is not reserved.
Church musicians
Bemidji Area Church Musicians will present musicians Joni Lund with folk flutes and strings, and Pat Riegert on guitar and dulcimer at noon, Wednesday, July 20 at the Evangelical Free Church, 115 Carr Lake Rd. S.W. A free will offering will be accepted in support of the music scholarships given each year. A luncheon will be served following the concert for a nominal cost.

Third Thursday in Park Rapids will begin at 5 p.m. Thursday, July 21, in downtown Park Rapids when David Overly will read the poem, “The Creation” by James Walden Johnson, and some Robert Frost poetry from 5-5:30 and 6-6:30 p.m. at Beagle Books, 112 Third Street W. Taylor Schroeder will play and sing folk and folk rock from 5-5:30 and 6-6:30 p.m. at The Good Life Cafe, 220 Main Ave. S. At Bella Caffè, The North Star Ensemble (Walt and Anita Hannemann, Donna Neumann and Kathy Gorentz) will perform from 5:30-6 and 6:30-7 p.m. at Bella Caffè, 116 Third Street W. The Silk Strings (Brian Keske and granddaughter Megan) will play from 5:30-6 and 6:30-7 p.m. at Blank Canvas Gallery & Education Center, 311 Main Ave. South,
A bonus this month will be the Kids Theater Camp performing “Under the Surface.” The play, written by the 24 students who will then direct and act in the production will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Park Rapids Area High School auditorium, 401 Huntsinger Ave. Third Thursday events are designed to bring audiences to see and hear visual artists, musicians, writers and other artists in businesses in downtown Park Rapids on the Third Thursday of the month.
