Pets of the Week: Sweet Senior Dogs Need Homes
Senior cats aren’t the only seniors at the Cobb County Animal Control shelter. Senior dogs are also turned in on a daily basis. These older animals make excellent pets. Dogs and cats mellow after they have outgrown the antics of the puppy and kitten stage. And because of this, they often make smoother transitions into new homes. Training, if done in the past, is well established, leaving ‘accidents’ less likely to occur.
This edition of Pets of the Week is dedicated to all the seniors at the shelter.
Emma, an 8-year-old, female Australian Shepherd mix , came in to the shelter on May 17 when her owner dropped her off. She was quite scared but has learned to adapt to shelter life. She loves going outside with the volunteers and getting a good brushing. She is good with kids and house trained. Being housetrained is especially hard for these dogs. They try to hold it until they get outside. ID No. 530815 .
Pogo is a 9-year-old cute little beagle. You would never guess this dog is 9. He was out playing ball with the volunteer when we made pictures. Pogo jumped at least three feet into the air to get it. Another owner turn in, he has been at the shelter since June 13. He knows how to sit and stay. He is also housetrained. ID No. 532004 .
Allie , what a smiley dog this 8-year-old chocolate Lab/Chow mix is. She’s a little bit overweight and happy as a clam…although she would be happier still in a loving home. Her family left her at the shelter on June 12. Allie is a volunteer and staff favorite. She’s a quiet dog that gets along with other dogs (see photo of her and Pogo together) and she loves kids. She, too, is housetrained. ID No. 531943 .
The shelter now makes sure that all animals are spayed/neutered, up to date on their shots, and tested either prior to leaving or by making an appointment to bring them back to have it done.
Adoption and death are the only ways out for these animals. Please come to the shelter and find a new friend.

The shelter is in dire need of canned kitten food (pate style). Many of the kittens are too young to be eating dry kibbles or chunky wet food. If you can donate canned (pate style) kitten food, please drop it off at the front desk.
