MANOR TWP.: About $1,200 worth of items were stolen from a home in the 1000 block of Tom Paine Drive sometime between Tuesday and Saturday morning, township police said.

An iPod Nano, iPod Touch, PlayStation and Xbox gaming systems and controllers, a phone charger and a jar of change were stolen.

LANCASTER: A door jamb was damaged and 50 to 60 feet of copper pipe was stolen from a property in the 400 block of East Strawberry Street Monday night.

SALISBURY TWP.: Someone opened a gate and let sheep get out of their pen along Diem Road on Friday between 12:30 and 3:30 a.m. Ephrata state police ask anyone with information to call 721-7667. Tipsters may also call Lancaster City/County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-322-1913.

CAERNARVON TWP.: Jesse Wertz, 46, of Honey Brook, was charged with criminal mischief and disorderly conduct for breaking a neighbor's porch railing, police said. Wertz then threw the wood from the railing onto a parking lot.

LANCASTER: Jose L. Cruz-Castro, 52, of the 500 block of North Prince Street, was charged after a disturbance in the 500 block of North Duke Street Thursday afternoon, city police said. Police said he shouted vulgarities and obstructed traffic in the area. He also physically and verbally challenged security officers to fight, police said.

—Felix D. Rodriguez, 51, who is homeless, was charged after defecating in a parking lot in the first block of West Orange Street on Wednesday.

WARWICK TWP.: Matthew R. Mostller, 22, of the 100 block of West Main Street, Myerstown, was charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana after a vehicle stop Saturday morning at North Oak and Main streets. A passenger, Brett David Zimmerman, 21, of the 800 block of Lancaster Street, Bethel, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, police said.

MANOR TWP.: Darryl J. Schock, 45, of the 3000 block of Miller Road, Washington Boro, was charged with possessing drug paraphernalia on Friday at his apartment, township police said. He was committed to Lancaster County Prison for a probation violation.

EAST LAMPETER TWP.: Fay Smith, 60, of the 900 block of Krista Court, was charged after a traffic stop Saturday in the 500 block of Greenfield Road, police said.

EAST EARL TWP.: Dedra Vanessa Lisk, 34, of Greeley, was charged after being stopped for numerous traffic violations at Earl Avenue and Route 897 Saturday at 2:25 a.m., state police at Ephrata said.

Once you have your tools ready, it’s time to get to work. The first step to a tire change is to remove the valve core from the valve stem. Be sure to loosen the valve stem and rim lock after performing this step.

Next up, it’s time to break the tire bead. Here’s where your tire spoons and rim saver will really be helpful, especially if you want to protect your wheel’s shiny paint. It’s best to install the rim savers 180 degrees from the rim lock, then install all three tire spoons underneath the rim savers and tire. Once you lift the tire up and over the rim savers, you can begin working your way around the wheel, carefully using the tire spoons to wedge the tire off the wheel. Using three spoons makes removal easier, as you can remove the center spoon while keeping the other two in place.

Once you have the wheel fully levered off the rim, the next step is to remove the tube and the lock nut from the valve. Once these are removed, go ahead and flip the wheel and finish removing the tire.

After the old tire/tube are removed, you can now install a rim lock (if desired). Most motocross/endure wheels have a hole on the rim somewhat opposite the valve stem where the rim lock would go. Don’t tighten the rim lock down fully at this point. That can be done later.

Now it’s time to begin installation of the new tube and tire. Start by lubing up the new tire’s bead with any soapy solution (a la window cleaner, hand soap and water, etc…). This will help the tire slide on the rim a bit easier. Go ahead and push the tire down onto the rim and get ready to install the tube. Before you place the tube in the tire, start by adding a little air to the tube, as this will help it hold its shape and prevent any folding or pinching during installation. Line up the valve stem on the tube and begin working the tube into the cavity between the tire and rim.

Once the tire and tube are in place, repeat the tire removal process in reverse by using your tire spoons to set the bead on the tire. Start at the rim lock and work your way around, carefully wedging the tire bead down and into the rim. Tools like a Bead Buddy are very helpful at this stage to keep the tire in place while working the bead around the rim.

Now the only work left is to tighten up the valve stems and rim locks and add in some air. Before you reinstall you’re tire, it’s smart to use an accurate tire gauge to measure for correct air pressure. Once you’re good, it’s time to mount up and ride!
